{Beauty Review} Sunblock Please!

Whether it is Winter or Summer in your part of the world,
sunblock is the ultimate must-have beauty product that should be applied to
your face liberally EVERY DAY. Please do not disregard the importance of that
statement and spew out excuses like “I sit in an office all day” or “sunscreen
makes my face white” because you know that is nonsense. Also don’t develop a
false sense of security and believe that the SPF in your foundation is enough,
this is a total fallacy. The amount of sunblock that is applied through a
normal make-up application is a minuscule amount and still leaves you exposed
to the nasty effects of UVA andUVB.

If the possibility of developing skin diseases is not enough
to convince you of the dire importance of sunscreen then maybe the thought of
wrinkles will spur you on. Sunscreen will prevent premature aging, facial brown spots and skin
discolouration. 20 years from now you will totally regret having not worn
sunscreen daily when you compare your skin to that of a person who did. When it
comes to our skin, we all want to avoid a leathery appearance, right ladies?
Here are a few things you should know about sunblock:
  • Make sure your sunblock contains Avobenzone, Titanium
Dioxide or Zinc Oxide to protect you from both UVA and UVB.
  • Beware of expired sunscreen as its formula has broken down
and will no longer protect you from the sun.
  • Don’t skimp on the sunscreen. If applied too thin, the
protective factor can be reduced dramatically.
  • Apply your sunscreen after your skincare routine but before
your make-up. If you are not outside, swimming or sweating off your sunscreen,
    then you need not reapply.
  • Allow the sunblock to absorb fully into your skin for about
20-30 minutes before exposing your skin to the sun.
  • Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your lips, neck and hands.

Personally, I use the UVA/UVB Defense SPF 50 by Cetaphil as part of my daily skincare routine. I like the consistency and find that it doesn’t clog my pores as some sunblocks have in the past. It is available at Dischem for about R170.

Reading this just makes me want to go to the beach now 😉 When I was younger I used to sit in the sun for hours without putting a proper SPF on as I always wanted a beautiful tan come holiday time … Now with bad sun spots, I learnt my lesson and apply SPF every morning as part of my routine, even if I'm only running to the shops quickly. I enjoyed reading this – thank you Ali xxx

I don't leave the house without applying my SPF 50 either but it is fairly new to my routine. I wish I had know all of the above sooner. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by! X
